Haven't read heaps of this NT Wright dude's stuff, but what I have he seems pretty switched on, has done some good scholarly stuff on Jesus. Good kid.
“According to the early Christians, the church doesn’t exist in order to provide a place where people can pursue their private spiritual agendas and develop their own spiritual potential. Nor does it exist in order to provide a safe haven in which people can hide from the wicked world and ensure that they themselves arrive safely at an otherworldly destination. Private spiritual growth and ultimate salvation come rather as the byproducts of the main, central, overarching purpose for which God has called and is calling us. The purpose is clearly stated in various places in the New Testament: that through the church God will announce to the wider world that he is indeed its wise, loving, and just creator: that through Jesus he has defeated the powers that corrupt and enslave it; and that by his Spirit he is at work to heal and renew it.”

Diggity,
I am a North American, seminary graduate, husband to an ordained minister, and I, too, recently discovered N T Wright, and found him (pardon the phrase) a revelation. I have read all three of his books on early Christianity and the Question of God, and can only insist that you take the time and energy to read them yourself. My blog is progchristian.blogspot.com. Good luck and God Bless.
Digs,
Actually just started a book this week that is half written by NT Wright and the other half Marcus Borg! They each write a chapter on an issue...I think the whole item is Borg is the liberal voice and Wright a bit more conservative. But from what I had read Wright does seem to have some good scholarly insights.
Why read NT Wright when you can download a whole lot of his MP3's for free? http://www.ntwrightpage.com/
He has to be the best living NT theologian that I know. Get into it Digs.
How are things? How is the planting stuff going? Are you living the rhetoric mate?
I've heard of that Borg guy too, sounds like a good read mate.
Thanks for the heads up too Stephen.
Yeah things are well generally, the planting stuff is much harder than i thought, but rewarding in mnay ways too.
Not going as I'd originally dreamed in some areas, which i'm Ok with, as those dreams are ongoing anyway, and can't be achieved yet. But there have been things that have been disheartening, but other really encouraging.
Learning a lot about the process of discerning God's voice in a group context too.
It's a pretty simple format really, nothing special or out there, which is fine. But thats a very brief outline, your comments to me last year are indeed proving to be challenges, but ya work through that hey!
Cheers
