Jesus Loves Osama

It's funny, I was driving along yesterday and passed some church that had a sign out the fron t that churches seem to be so fond of, which said 'Jesus Loves Osama' and I was actually like, wow, thats a half decent church sign.

And then I get on the net this morning and there's a poll on Ninemsn asking, 'Should churches say that Jesus Loves Osama?' So obviously I voted in the positive, then the results came up-I was outnumbered ten to one!

This pissed me off for a few reasons, one, clearly we as Christians aren't doing a bang-up job of telling people the whole Jesus loves everybody message, but second, since when does Joe Average have the right to say what Christians can teach about Jesus? You don't see us telling atheists what they can and can't teach about...nothing. Or Muslims what they can teach about Mohammed. It's bloody stupid.

hey digs,

i agree with you, but there are plenty of christians who portray themselves as better than others, and tell them what to teach. eg. no harry potter he's evil; no lord of the rings, they're evil; you can't teach evolutionary science, it's false; i invented electricity, ben franklin is the devil. etc.

those christians make me far more irritated.

peace, oh you going to the sufm bbq?

hey digs,
funny, ages ago, like just after sept 11 2000, i realised that, and it tripped me out for a while. But how on earth could someone say that the church has no right to say something? that's weird.

Digger! At no time during VETA did you show us that part of the bible that says jesus loves all *fine print: except osama, elmo, the boogie man, second cousins, and porn stars* Pretty sure he's going to smite you down for this one!

HAHA! you should've been at the half hour lecture I got from a certain lady person when I contradicted her and said that Jesus does love him, who are we to say he doesn't?

I think too many christians are too busy playing "jesus" that they forget to be just fellow stuffer-up-ers!

Man this faith thing is so whacked up! no wonder why so many turn away from God, or at least the people claiming to be God...

xx.

But you see 2minO CHONG, Ben Franklin is the devil!

And na SUFM barbie for me, got the first VET retreat. Better put in some hard yards with these guys so they don't turn out like the shambles that was all of last years course!! Haha, na should be fun!

Yeah MAse found out it was John Howard, reckons its the wrong focus for churches. Apparently that loving enemies thing was inconsequential, but the 'bomb your enemies' bit is much more important...

Haha Esky, there was many things I should have taught you in VET that I didn't! Don't worry mate, there comes a time when you appreciate the whackness! :)

digs i was listening to a 774 call in debate about this topic on the way to work monday morning, or it may have been friday... not too sure.

anyway the presenters argument was that he understood the principal of forgiveness. the argument he had was deliberately using a "publicity stunt" to cause controversy.

he went on to say that that may have angered people who have lost people to terrorism, which in turn would lead more people away from god.

of course jesus does love osama, but it seems hard for the non believer to accept and tolerate.

anyway to the point my question is...

should we be trying to get people to like the idea of God, or should we throw in controversial statement which can lead seekers further from christianity?
