Decent Music

Have liked many things here at this conference, but one of the best things has been the music-which for those of you who know me, is a big call!

Not because it was high quality, or the singers or guitarists were good or any of that rubbish, but just the diversity od styles of songs they had etc.

Plus the other thing I really appreciated was the fact they did this song about acknowledging that life is crap and faith is hard sometimes. Not that that is particularly my experience right now, but it is so so important to acknowledge, something I so rarely hear in most Happy-Happy La La Christian music these days.

Of course some people do feel Happy Happy La La, but not everybody, so why only sing those songs...

Plus half the time I struggle with the theology in mnay songs, but has been good this week-I even found myself singing along at times!

All quiet on the blog front

Was flat out last week, and am now up in QLD at the National Youth ministry Convention, which has started real well, so will be limited time to blog.

So much to blog about too, including my recent Ministry of the Holy Spirit weekend, which was pretty new and all full on for me, but all good.

Will be helpful to blog reflections so will get onto it STAT.

My sermon from Thursday

Yesterday I had the chance to speat at Flinders Carrum Downs, which was great fun. Spoke a bit about some of my experiences this year from being on TV n all that, and my reflections on that etc.

Looking back now I would do a few things differently, but still reckon it went OK.

The link is due to one of the whiz-kid students there who records all the messages and chucks em up on the net as a resource for his fellow students. He's done very well I reckon.

Did it actually happen?

Was having a discussion in class today about the Gospels story about Jesus and the withered fig tree. One version is in LKuke and I forget where the other is.

The lecturer was talking about that he thought one might have been a parable and one an actual story, he wasn't sure, but that doesn't really matter, will look into that later.
Anyways, it got me thinking. Would it actually matter if that story actually happened? Does it not have value even just as a story, and perhaps something to teach us regardless.

It sounds weird, but just because it didn't actually happen, does it make it actually less 'true'?

And not just this story, what about stuff like Jesus walking on water. What difference would it make if it was just a story the Gospel writers used to tell thes tory of Jesus having power over the water or something like that? In one way it wouldn't matter, but in one it would.

Very raw tjhoughts at the moment, but just something to think about.

Very Addictive Game!!

This is so simple, yet so addictive, I've only done it 4 times and I'm hooked! They reckon over 18 seconds is decent!

Why do women change their names?

A seemingly purposely provocative article about why women shouldn't change their names to that of their new husbands and why any that do are idiots.

About two good points in amongst a whole load of crap n my opinion.

It did get me wondering why it is that women change their names, where it started and when, if I would want/expect my wife to change her name etc.

Just something worth discussing.

Has been interesting watching the debate over this show interesting last two weeks. The usual conservative Christian groups coming out condemning it as filth and the civil libertarians saying that we should get over it and that people can watch wahtever they want.

I find myself in an interesting position on stuff like that, because I agree that it is unnecessarily sexual and is just smutty crap, but at the same time admit that people should really be allowed to watch that kind of stuff if they want.

I don't agree completely with the whole 'if you don't like it just turn it off' argument, as I believe if you go too far down that path then why not just have whatever porn people want to watch on the TV? Where does it stop? It has to stop somewhere, thats why we have a TV censorship board etc.

And why are people are so angry about this and not other shows,it doesn't seem to show anything more explicit than any other TV show, it's just the regularity. So if we as a society think its OK to see boobs on TV then do we have a right to stipulate how many times?

Interesting to think about.
